History teacher Michael Meizies returned to The Morgan School this fall. Although Mr. Meizies is considered one of the newer teachers in our school, he actually worked at the old Morgan School. He left the old Morgan School to go work at Eliot after the 2008-2009 school year. He currently teaches all freshmen and sophomores in his World History and U.S History classes.

After graduating from high school he continued his education at The University of Connecticut. He decided to go down the teaching route because, “I really liked history, but I never thought I would be a teacher when I went to UCONN as an undergraduate, and I had to make money somehow, so I said, well I think I can teach history”. Obviously the teaching route worked out for Mr.Meizies because this is his 25th year working in the Clinton Public School System. He worked at Eliot for 14 years. Before that, he taught at Morgan for 10 years.  He said,“I like interacting with the kids. That’s the best part of the job and I like teaching what I teach up here at Morgan, World History and U.S. History.”

At Eliot, he worked with the former Eliot principal, Linda Tucker. Mrs. Tucker previously worked as a principal at Morgan while Mr. Meizies was a part of the Morgan communities.

Although Mr. Meizies worked at both Eliot and Morgan, He enjoys working with the older students. He states “I’m glad to be back at Morgan. The kids are a lot older and more mature, so you can do more things with them in the classroom.” Mr. Meizies described his experience back at Morgan “It’s been excellent. I especially loved it at the beginning of the year because we had air conditioning and I wasn’t sweating my butt off.”  In the past, while teaching at Eliot, he never had air conditioning, even through the heat waves.

Outside of the Morgan walls, he enjoys traveling. He said “I like going to Europe and I like going to the Caribbean islands.” He also likes “Chilling and relaxing” while he is not in Morgan.

Mr. Meizies is very excited to be back at the Morgan school and very enthusiastic about teaching students about history.

So wonderful to see this news! I had the great fortune of Mr. Meizies as my History teacher the first time he was at Morgan. He always ran an engaging classroom, was relatable and made learning (and even more miraculously, high school!!!) fun. Congrats to all!
