The Morgan Track and Field Boys and Girls team competed in the state championship.

On Tuesday, May 28th, the Morgan Boys track team competed in the Class M State Championship. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, or CIAC, is divided into 5 classes based on the number of students in each school. Class S is the smallest class, followed by classes M, MM, L, and LL. The Morgan boys are members of class M. The Morgan Girls Track team competed in the CIAC Class S State Championship on Wednesday, May 29th. Since there is a smaller number of girls at Morgan, they compete in class S.

All the championships for track and field took place at Veteran’s Stadium in New Britain, CT. On Tuesday, the boy’s meet started at 4:00. The top 6 finishers in each event earn a medal. In addition, the top 3 finishers in each event advance to the State Open, which takes place on Monday, June 3rd, 2024. The State Open consists of the top 3 finishers in each event from every class, and then the next 10 best times. For the Morgan boys team, senior Robby Estabrook qualified for the State Open, finishing second out of 22 in the javelin throw. The Sheehan boys team won the meet, becoming this year’s Class M Boys State Champion. They had a total score of 71 points. The Morgan boys team earned a total of 8 points, placing 25th out of 30 teams.
