On Sunday, May 5, 2024, two Morgan seniors Jacob Jones and Glenda Zhiminaicela were recognized at the 41st annual CAS-CIAC Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet along with 344 state-wide scholar athletes.
According to the CIAC website, The Connecticut Scholar-Athlete Program annually recognizes two high school seniors from each member school with exemplary academic and athletic careers. The athletes recognized exemplify personal standards and achievements that are a model to others, high levels of integrity, self-discipline, and courage. The honorees are chosen by the member schools and are submitted to the CIAC.
The Annual Connecticut High School Scholar-Athlete Awards Program and Banquet has honored over four thousand graduating seniors in Connecticut high schools. Around 1,600 people attend the banquet each year to recognize the excellence of students in both athletics and academics.
Glenda and Jacob both feel honored to have received this award and felt it reflected their hard work throughout their past four years at Morgan. Glenda said, “The award showed my consistent effort and dedication to sports and academics in an effort to make my coaches, teachers, parents, and teammates proud.” Glenda would also like to thank her family, teammates, and coaches for all their support. Jacob said, “It was nice to be recognized as more than an athlete because while I was recognized for my athletic achievements, my academic distinction also played a major part in being chosen.” Jacob also enjoyed the dinner and banquet and felt it was nice to see other kids from the Shoreline who were also chosen.
