As social media has become more prevalent in teens’ lives, it has also become a resource to connect with the community. At Morgan, various social media accounts communicate with the student body. Most teens look down at their phone as they walk through the halls, ignoring the bulletin boards with important announcements. Social media accounts around school have been created to get student input, announce events, and give updates to the Morgan community.
Morgan has accounts for clubs, sports, classes, and activities. Over the summer, a STEP Instagram account was created to share photos taken during the freshman orientation program. The account received lots of positive feedback, with many students reposting pictures they saw of themselves and their friends.
Clubs such as Interact, React, and Spirit Squad also have Instagram accounts. These accounts share upcoming information and announcements with its members, as well as the rest of the student population. As Homecoming Week approaches, the Spirit Squad Instagram account posts often reminding students of the spirit themes for each day next week. The account also reminded students to buy their homecoming tickets while they are only $10, compared to $15 at the door.
Senior Riley Schmidt, who runs the STEP, Morgan Class of 2024, Spirit Squad, Interact, and React accounts says, “Running social media accounts helps get information out to students and allows the school to quickly learn about what’s happening in the community.”
One of the most popular Instagram accounts we have for Morgan is the Morgan Athletics account, run by athletic director Meagan Sears. Mrs. Sears posts often on the account reminding students of upcoming games, encouraging school spirit. The account also shares different recognitions students have received for sports, such as All Shoreline, and All State. Individual sports teams have also created their own accounts to share their schedules and results.
The Morgan Pawprint uses not only Instagram, but also Twitter, and Facebook to share students work. Students’ in Journalism are in charge of running these accounts to promote theirs and their peers work.
