Senior Ava Johnson has been an active member of the Morgan community for the past four years. She played on the Morgan girls basketball team every year, and was a captain her senior year. During her final season, she won All Shoreline First Team and Class M All State honors. Ava enjoyed being able to show her leadership skills to her younger teammates. She said, “The best part about being captain was just being a role model for my teammates and knowing I could share my opinion.” Ava shared that she has a very competitive spirit, and enjoyed playing basketball for that reason. She said, “I like being competitive and playing with some of my good friends. I’ve been playing for so long, it’s one of my favorite things to do.”
Ava has been a conscientious and hard-working student for the past four years. She said her favorite Morgan memory was the 2024 Girls Basketball Shoreline Championship Game. She said, “A lot of people came, and it was really cool to be in that environment.” Ava mentioned, “My favorite teacher was probably Mrs. Lisy. I like her classes because they’re very hands-on and she’s a good teacher. We get along really well.” Science teacher Emily Lisy enjoyed having Ava as a student in both ECE Marine Science during her junior year and ECE Allied Health this year. Mrs. Lisy said, “She works really hard and is really engaged. She is always participating and helps out everyone in class.”
Ava expressed her gratitude for her family as well. She would like to thank her parents and brothers, Morgan alumni, Zach and Garrret Johnson. She said, “I want to thank them for all the support they’ve given me for the past four years.”
Ava mentioned that after graduation, she will miss her friends and the Morgan environment. She said, “I will miss being around my friends every day and sports. I’m going to a new place where I don’t really know anyone, so I won’t be as comfortable.” This fall, Ava will be attending Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. Ava will be majoring in health sciences and participating in the Dual Degree BS/JD (3+3) program offered at Quinnipiac to earn a bachelor’s degree and allow her to complete law school all in six years. The Morgan community wishes Ava the best in her future endeavors.
