Football, basketball, golf, and theater are only some of the activities that Senior Jack Nye participated in at The Morgan School. Jack is the youngest of four siblings who all graduated from Morgan. Georgia Nye received her degree in Elementary Education from James Madison University. James Peter Nye graduated from Muhlenberg College after a successful football career with the Mules. Andrew Nye is currently attending Oberlin College, pursuing his football career. Following in his brothers’ footsteps, Jack will be attending Colby College, where he will be playing Division III football.
Colby College is part of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Jack started playing football when he was in third grade. According to Jack, his youth years were “traumatizing”. The love for the sport came later in life. Freshman year during COVID-19, playing with his older brother Drew, made Jack appreciate and grow his love for the sport. Jack said, “Football is a very different sport than normal high school sports. Football is physically challenging, mentally tough, and it’s more intense.” As a captain this year for the MSW Co-op, Jack said, “Creating that brotherhood with our teammates and being that close to be able to win a game makes the team so special.”
Jack is going into his freshman year at Colby with high expectations for himself. One of Jack’s main goals is to be physically and mentally prepared to get on the field his first year. Jack said, “I want to contribute to the team and be part of a successful season.” As he did during his high school years, Jack wants to learn from the upperclassmen. He wants to be able to follow in their footsteps and learn what makes a successful wide receiver. The Mules are led by Jack Cosgrove. Jack gave his future coach high praise. He is excited to be coached by Cosgrove and said that he is a wise coach and can’t wait for the opportunity to work with him.
Football is not the only sport where Jack excels. He shined on the basketball court this past season and earned First-Team All Shoreline. As a captain, Jack was able to lead his team to have a successful season. Spring isn’t an off season either. Jack and his Co-Captain, Sean Davis are looking forward to a strong end of their senior season In golf. Golf is not only a spring sport, but also family time. Jack values the time he spends with his family playing golf.
Athletics was not Jack’s only passion at Morgan. Jack started theater his junior year of high school. It was a completely different experience for him. Instead of being on the field, he was on the stage. On the stage, he was surrounded by people he wasn’t with on a daily basis. One of those people was musical director and chorus teacher John Lampe.. For Jack, Mr. Lampe was a “huge help” in helping him discover his love for theater. While the passions for his other sports were still there, this was different. Jack’s mentality going to the theater was “I get to do this” not “I have to do this.”
Jack is valued by many of his teachers and peers. Personal Finance teacher Ryan Richetelli said, “Jack always has deep insight during class discussions. I will never forget the reign of Nye’s”. Friend and Golf Co-Captain Sean Davis said, “Jack is a really great and genuine guy. It’s been a pleasure working with him in student government, and I’ve had a really fun time getting to know him during the musical and golf season. I wish him the best of luck in the future.”
Jack is a valued member of our community. He loves getting to spend time with his friends and making new friends as well. Jack is often described as a caring and energetic personality. After one conversation with him, you’ll see that statement is true. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!
