Valley Boys Basketball Game 1/5

Huskies Continuing Their Winning Streak

On January 5 at 7 p.m., the Morgan Boys Basketball team played an away game against Valley Regional High School. They ended up winning 65-44, continuing their 7-0 undefeated streak and their 1st in the Shoreline ranking for the 2023-2024 season.

The one difference between this game, compared to any other game for the boys’ season, was senior Olivia Cunningham. Olivia, number 22, is the only girl on the Valley Boys Basketball team. Last year, the Valley’s girls’ basketball team made it all the way to the State Championship and almost clinched the victory over East Hampton at Mohegan Sun. Their team was mostly made up of seniors. Meaning this year, there sadly were not enough girls willing to play to make up an entire team. This left Valley without a girls team for the 2023-2024 season. Olivia ended up joining the boys team this year and even became a captain.

Score During 2nd Quarter (Gabi Navarra)

Now this could have possibly been a threat for our basketball team at Morgan, but it wasn’t enough to break their winning streak this season. By the beginning of the second quarter, the Huskies were already up by almost double, 30-17. They came out strong and dominated throughout the entire game to clinch the victory.

The starting lineup consisted of Captain Ryan Donadio, Captain Robby Estabrook, Captain Jack Nye, Kolby Clifton, and Patrick O’Neil.

The Dog Pound came out to support their team and will do so again at their next game on Tuesday, January 16th, at 7 p.m at Coginchaug Regional High School. Coginchaug is 3rd in the Shoreline. Let’s help the Huskies to continue their undefeated season next game.

Hi! My name is Gabi Navarra, I’m a junior and this is my third time working for The Morgan PawPrint. I'm on the girl's soccer team and track & field team here at Morgan.  I’m back producing for the PawPrint because I enjoy the freedom and opportunities the PawPrint has given me. I have been able to take photos for both sports and different school events, write articles, and learn how to film and edit videos. This class gives a taste of what it is like to be a journalist out in the real world for those who possibly want to work in the journalism field in the future.
