Senior Maeve Madura has committed to the application process to play women’s lacrosse at Wesleyan University. Wesleyan is located in Middletown, CT, and is part of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Committing to the admissions process means a recruit and coach have made a verbal commitment, but the athlete still needs to apply to the school.
As a senior, she was a captain of the girl’s soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams. She was also a lacrosse captain during her junior year. In the spring of 2023, she received First Team All Shoreline honors for lacrosse and in the fall of 2023 received All Shoreline First Team and Class S All State honors for soccer. During her junior season, she scored her 100th career goal for Morgan.
Maeve started playing lacrosse in third grade with her dad. She picked up the sport quickly and began playing for the Clinton Youth Lacrosse team in fourth grade. In sixth grade, she began playing for her club team, Nor’easter, where she still plays today. Each year, Maeve and her team travel to 3 or 4 lacrosse tournaments in various states. This gave coaches for college the opportunity to come watch her team play. Through the tournaments, coaches began reaching out to Maeve. Maeve said, “I’ve played sports my whole life, and I knew from a really young age that I really wanted to play in college because I love lacrosse, and I couldn’t imagine going to college and not doing a sport.”
Wesleyan University reached out to Maeve’s recruiting coordinator, who works for her club team. They expressed interest in Maeve, and she attended their lacrosse prospect day. During the camp, the coaches talked to Maeve and told her they would love to have her as part of their team.
By the beginning of the summer, Maeve had narrowed her options down to just a couple NESCAC schools. Since Wesleyan is so focused on academics, the school was not allowed to offer recruits an ensured spot on the team until August 1, 2023. That day, Maeve received a phone call ensuring her spot, and she made her decision to commit. Since then, Maeve has attended an orientation where she stayed in the dorms for a couple of days and was able to meet her future teammates. This gave her a chance to get used to the Wesleyan environment.
She is still unsure of what she is going to study. She said, “I would tell people to push themselves, harder, work harder than everyone else around you, and always try to improve. Never be satisfied with where you are.” Maeve is thrilled to continue her lacrosse career and the Morgan community is proud of all of her hard work.
