Morgan is bringing back a tradition of a volleyball tournament for the students, staff and community members to participate in. The class of 2025 brought back the volleyball fundraiser to raise money for junior prom. The volleyball tournament will take place this Thursday, October 19th after the half day, at 6:30pm in the Morgan gym. To sign up, students contacted junior advisors, Jess Lynch or Diana Rizzo with a team including up to ten people and a payment of $100. Spectators will have to pay $5 to come and watch the tournament.
Last year, according to Ms. Lynch the class raised $1,100 and said that many students enjoyed it. Junior, Josh Nobitz, student representative, said, “Last year everybody had fun, and this year we wanted to do it, so that more people could participate in the tournament and learn more about what the tournament is like.” He explains that the tournament brought in a lot of money or the class of 2025, and that’s something the class of 2025 have struggled with.
One of the biggest problems that the junior class faced was creating a successful fundraiser that brings in a sufficient amount of money. Past fundraisers, such as a movie night or raffles, have not brought in money, unlike this one. They plan on hosting the tournament two times this year to be successful in creating an income for junior prom.
Teams from all grades, sports and faculty will come together to compete for the championship. Last year, 9 teams participated in three sets to the best of 11 points. Junior, Selina Chen, described the past tournament as “competitive and fun.” This year, 10 teams have signed up to participate. Slowly this tradition is starting to grow, and there will be more volleyball tournaments to follow. Sign up, come watch and help to fundraise for the class of 2025.
