Top Ten 2018

Members of the Class of 2018 worked tremendously hard over the last four years. Ten of them, however, stand out above the rest. These ten students dedicated countless hours to their studies and are, as a result, going to great colleges to continue their educations. Below are profiles of the Top Ten students. Students are listed in no particular order.

Madison Seeger
Madison Seeger was a captain for the lacrosse team, and also played volleyball and basketball at Morgan. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She was involved with Husky Leadership and named Morgan Scholar. She organized the 5K color run and has volunteered at lacrosse camps, Clinton Family Day, and other community events. Her advice to underclassmen is “study, don’t procrastinate, but enjoy your time. Go out with friends and make sure to do things you enjoy. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Make the best of the 4 years because before you know it, it will be over.” She will be attending Bridgewater State University and double majoring in Elementary and Special Education along with Math, and minoring in Psychology. She will also continue to play lacrosse.

Andraya Carse
Andraya Carse has been dancing competitively for 13 years at Backstage Dance Center, ran outdoor track until her junior year, and is now sailing with Daniel Hand’s sailing team while working on developing a sailing program at Morgan. She runs Andie’s Confections, a nonprofit fudge and truffle business that she started when she was 12. She was a member of both the National and Spanish Honor societies as well as a member of Interact and REACT. She also volunteers as a junior board member with Kids for Kids, a local nonprofit organization that serves local kids in need. She was a vice president of her class, a Husky Leader and a part of the freshman mentoring program. Andraya will be attending Loyola University Chicago and be studying Cognitive Neuroscience.

Anes Gadun
Anes Gadun played goalie in soccer and ran indoor and outdoor track. He was the captain of all 3 sports and went all-state for soccer and 2nd team All-Shoreline for indoor track. He was also named a CIAC scholar-athlete. He was inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish National Honor Society. Anes was a part of Husky Leaders, Freshman Mentoring, and was a Rotary Student of the Month. His advice to underclassmen is “work hard, as high school will go by very quickly. Don’t be afraid to do things, take advantage of opportunities.” He will be attending Saint Josephs and majoring in Biology on a pre-medical track. He will continue to play soccer there.

Mary Kate Staunton
​Mary Kate Staunton swam, fenced, and ran track for Morgan. She was vice president of the National Honor Society and also the secretary of the Interact club. She founded the Women’s Empowerment Club. Mary Kate received the Science department award and the Global Citizen award. Her advice for underclassmen is “do things that you are passionate about because it will make high school more enjoyable and will pay off in the future.” She will be attending UConn in the Honors Program and will study Biology on a pre-medical track.

Kaitlyn Maurais, Valedictorian
Kaitlyn Maurais has danced for a total of 16 years. 13 of those years she has been dancing competitively. She has been inducted into the National Honor Society and has been a part of student council, holding an officer position for 4 years. Her advice to underclassmen is “get good grades, study hard, and definitely work with your peers too as it’s a collaborative environment. Challenging each other and working well together helps boost one  another and not just yourself.” She will be attending Skidmore College and will be majoring in biology and hopes to minor in dance.

Matthew Beauvais
Matthew Beauvais had been a part of the High School Bowl team and has also been an active member in both the musicals and chorus. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. His advice to underclassmen is “students should try their best while also possessing a healthy level of concern for their work that doesn’t leave them overly stressed and worried. High school is definitely a more enjoyable experience when stress is limited.” Matt will be attending UConn and will be majoring in Communications.

Katherine Kozak
Katherine Kozak’s poem ” The Lost Bookcase ” won an award at the Shoreline Writing Contest this year. Katie is a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society and  She will be attending Lyman Academy to study art. 

Katherine Daley, Salutatorian
Katherine Daley was a captain for the cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams, and was All-State for cross-country and track. Kate was also a Morgan Peer Advocate and a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. Throughout high school, Kate has volunteered throughout the community at various school and community events and has attended numerous leadership conferences, including several through the Student Leadership Training Program. Kate will be attending The University of Connecticut and be studying biology and N=nutrition. She will also continue to run cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track.

Nina Kelly
Nina Kelly was the captain of the fencing team. She was inducted into both National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society and was also part of the acapella club and the mentoring program. She was also the president of the REACT and Interact Clubs and started the Beach Bash at Morgan. Her advice to underclassmen is to “not be afraid to put yourself out there and don’t take everything so seriously. It’s more fun to do whatever you want and not care about what other people are thinking of you.” Nina will be attending Quinnipiac University and be majoring in Communications in their 3+1 program.

Brett Martin
Brett Martin was a captain for the track team and an XC athlete. He was apart of the Morgan musicals “Anything Goes” “Hello Dolly” and “She Loves Me”. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and French National Honor Society. He was also the Student Body President and class president twice. He received the CT Association of Public Schools Superintendent Student Award and Senior Spotlight Award. His advice for underclassmen is “try as many different activities as you can; be nice to everyone, and always be humble.” Brett will be attending George Washington University and be majoring in criminal justice.
