The weekend of February 18,  The Morgan Fencing team hosted their fourth Annual Invitational JV Fencing Tournament. The tournament was non-competitive and only featured Foil, one of the three weapons. The purpose was to raise money for the team through the sale of concessions, raffles, and candy grams. The team also gathered over 500 pounds of nonperishable food for the Clinton food pantry.

Head Coach Jim Barnett said,”our donations to the Clinton Food Pantry will exceed previous years due to the success of the tournament and the kindness of the ten teams that attended the event.  It was amazing to be able to host the event at the new Morgan School, and we received many compliments about the new school and the gym from coaches, competitors, and spectators.  At the end of the competition, coaches were already asking to be invited back next year.”

The following ten teams from across the state participated in the tournament:

The tournament was run by Morgan Fencers, Fencing Parents, and other volunteers. Ed Tessman and Mrs. Jane Barnett ran the bout committee table (They were responsible for keeping track of the scores and all of the announcements).
Sophomore and Men’s Foil Fencer Caleb Adams-Hull commented that “overall it was enjoyable, non-competitive, nice to be able to fence without the pressure of the real tournament.” Caleb did very well overall, only losing one of his eleven bouts. The other fencers on the Morgan Men’s team were Thomas Baker, Lucas Morello, and Matt Albert. Zeb Bovich fenced for the H-K/Hale Ray team. The Morgan Women’s team consisted of Rachel Flanagan, Becca Cockley, Nina Kelly, and Jenna Kareliussen.
