What do Morgan Students do on Half Days?

On Friday, December 4th 2015, the Morgan PawPrint staff sent out a survey to see what the students at The Morgan School do during their half days. 93 students responded and gave their opinion on what they like to do. 30 out of 92 people said they hang out with friends on half days, and 16 out of 93 people said they do homework.

Morgan students also like to chill, go to the library and read a book. But the majority of the students like to eat, watch TV and nap on their half days. Some of the students favorite places to eat are Cohen’s, HanaLibrarymi, Chistys, Dunkin Donuts, and Haywire.

Students play computer games, exercise and go to sports practices. Some sports people play are basketball, football, soccer, and hockey, or they go to the track and run. Plus some people went shopping and bought food for the soldiers. Then at night some students went to dance with siblings, got wisdom teeth pulled or went to a psychic.

Next year in the new school we may not have half days before holiday breaks! Mathematics teacher Paige Trusty thinks that half days are nice for students and teachers. But she looks forward to having full classes for complete lesson. Matt Zoner, Amber Deluca, Jackie Spear, Matt Koziy and Emily Sordo all agreed that this is an outrage. They all think that they deserve a break before vacation.

A proposed calendar for next year  provides the 24th (Thanksgiving Day) and the 25th off.  There is no longer a day off on Wednesday or early dismissal the day before. In December the proposed calendar has Christmas break starting on December 24 and ending January 2.  We have 1 full week off and no school on the following Monday so we will go back on that Tuesday. This year, winter break began with a half day on the 23rd.  We will still have half days for professional development days. No final decision has been made on next year’s schedule, but on October 19th the Board of Education reviewed the calendar proposed by LEARN, our regional educational center.

The 2016-2017 schedule has not been approved yet by The Board of Education. According to Administrative Assistant Allison Friday, “the Board will revisit it at their first February meeting… the current plan is to start before Labor Day.”
