On April 25th, 2024 the National Honor Society, in collaboration with the American Red Cross, hosted a blood drive at Morgan. Students, aged sixteen and up, along with staff, were encouraged to help save lives by donating blood.
This year, Morgan had 32 donations, saving 96 lives. National Honor Society advisor and Science teacher Kelly Gilbert spoke about the success: “I was really excited to see how many students were interested in participating this year. We beat our goal for donations, which is really awesome. I am looking forward to next year, being able to hopefully increase our donors and maybe even consider doing multiple blood drives.”
The event ran from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, with set up and clean up times before and after. Throughout the day, National Honor Society members took turns volunteering at the event. They were responsible for checking people in, assisting in the setup and clean up, and aiding the donors after they had given blood by helping them to the waiting area and providing them with drinks and snacks. Prior to the event, members helped advertise the blood drive and recruit people to donate. National Honor Society member Sara Stack said, “I thought it was a great cause and a great way to get the school involved. It was nice to see our school come together to help others.”
