Do the New COVID19 Protocols at Morgan Make Sense to Students?
Coming into the 2020-2021 school year there has been a tremendous change to the student life here at Morgan due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There have been COVID-19 protocols put in place for the safety of students, staff, and their families. Some protocols are wearing a mask at all times, separating the underclassmen and upperclassmen, different schedule, cleaning protocols. The million-dollar question is, do these COVID-19 protocols at Morgan make sense.
Many students had good and bad things to say about the COVID-19 Protocols.
Senior Mac Abbott said he thinks the protocols, “are ridiculous in general and that COVID-19 is a lot less dangerous than people expect” but also he said he will, “do whatever takes to stay in school. I do not like online school, so if wearing a mask means I can come to school, I’ll do what I do.”
Junior Nolan Sullivan mentioned the parent drop-off in the morning is terrible and said, “I have been late four or five times because of the drop-off, I have gotten here at 7:10, and then I will get into the school by 7:30 and be marked as tardy.”
Senior George Mantilia had the same to say about the parent drop-off, “the drop-off is horrible, due to the separation between the freshman/sophomores and the junior/seniors. I will end up being late because my little brother is dropped off first on time, and then I have to sit in this traffic jam.”
Senior Ryan Hromadka said, “I feel more focused in class because I am far away from everyone in the class, and with online learning at home, I do not feel determined to do work.”
Overall students and teachers are doing well with following these protocols, but there are some flaws. The parent drop-off is a problem that needs to be solved in the near future. Students have received detentions for being tardy three times even though they arrive at the school fifteen to twenty minutes prior to the first bell.
If the Morgan staff and students continue to follow the protocols we will stay on the right path to a successful 2020-2021 school year. You can find all the COVID-19 protocols in the COVID-19 Handbook
