    Start up the bus heaters because the Morgan Indoor Track and Field team is headed to State Opens! After a quick day off of school on Friday February 12, 2016, 29 Morgan athletes traveled to the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, CT  to compete in the Class S State Championship.

    Mikayla Track IndoorWith 18 women and 11 men competing, Morgan’s Track and Field Team brought home 5 medals, 2 individual and 3 team. This year all 5 medalists competed in the State Open Championship at The Floyd Little Athletic Center on Saturday February 20, 2016. With medals in the women’s 55 meter hurdles (Kate Mozzochi), 3200 meters (Kate Daley), 4×400 meter relay (Mozzochi, Catlen Goss, Courtney Viglione, and Courtney Carroll), 4×800 meter relay (Carroll, Daley, Lizzie Granfield, and Allie Gardner) and 1600 meter Sprint Medley relay (Goss, Viglione, Mozzochi, and Carroll) and competitors in the 55 meter dash (Mikayla Mancini) 1000 Track Indoormeters (Gardner and Issy Ranaudo), 55 meter hurdle preliminaries (Olivia Powers, Alyssa Robinson, Mancini, Georgia Nye, Gardner, and Jordan McMillan), 4×200 meter relay (Viglione, Goss, Savannah Skidmore, and Julia Zirkelbach), High Jump (Hannah Zirkelbach), Long Jump (Olivia Powers), and Shot Put (Victoria Barron), the women’s team finished the meet with a total of 31 points for 6th place over all.

    Likewise, the men competed in the 55 meter dash (Sam Hauser and Erik Michael F- Indoor trackMaertz), 4×200 meter relay (Juan Avila, Mateo Zumpano, Justin Navarra, and Calvin Jackson), 4×400 meter relay (Navarra, Zumpano, Jackson, and Burton Caldwell), 1600 meter Sprint Medley relay (Navarra, Zumpano, Caldwell, and Albert Viglione), 4×800 meter relay (Viglione, Michael Fiorillo, Brett Martin, and Thomas Southwood), and Long Jump (Avila).

    Although not as many men competed as women, both the men’s and women’s teams ran fantastic races allowing the Indoor Track and Field Team to have aBrett Indoor Track successful championship meet. Next weekend, the Indoor Track and Field Trip will be taking one last trip up to the Floyd Little Athletic Center so that the women’s 4×400, Sprint Medley, and 4×800 meter relays can compete, along with Kate Mozzochi (55 meter hurdles), and Kate Daley (3200 meters) for the State Open Championship. Congratulations to Coach Underwood, Coach Bannon, Coach Stevens, and the entire track team for a very successful season!
