Next year The Morgan School will not only have a new building, but it will also have a new schedule. A team of faculty members is devising a new schedule for the new Morgan.  Members of the committee and members of the student body shared their thoughts and insight on a new schedule for The Morgan School.

Mr. Serenbetz: He says that he likes the schedule this year, there is nothing that she doesn't like about it. For the schedule next year he says they are trying to create a situation, where students can go out and apply the knowledge they learn in things and in internships. As if you were taking engineering you could work with an engineer. You would have to be able to work every day therefore you have to have the same schedule. He says that there is many options they are still looking at, two long blocks someday block, someday normal. Lots of opportunities on the table. They want students to be able to leave school without missing class.

English Department Chair Paul Serenbetz likes the current schedule. There is nothing that he doesn’t like about it. However, the schedule next year will create a situation where students can go out and apply the knowledge they learn in internships. For example, if a student was interested in engineering, the student could work with an engineer. Since an engineering internship would require the student to work every day, a new Morgan School schedule must allow the student to attend school and attend a scheduled internship.  The scheduling committee, therefore, is looking at schedules that will allow students the opportunity to complete internships.  There are many options the committee is still looking at such as  a schedule with  two long blocks or a schedule that has block scheduling some days and traditional scheduling other days.  There are many different scheduling opportunities on the table. They want students to be able to leave school for internships without missing class.

Many students shared their views on the possibility of a schedule change for the new Morgan.  Junior Jordyn Suraci- likes the schedule this year. She would not like to change anything. She also likes having many classes for a shorter time, rather than a few for a long time.

Jay Forbes(senior)- She thinks they should keep the schedule the same, she thinks it is good to get a new atmosphere after each period. She likes many classes for a short time.

Ms. Capobianco

Guidance Counselor Joni Capobianco believes that the schedule we have now does not allow for internships. A schedule that allows students to attend classes at Morgan for half the day and attend art schools, magnet schools,  internships , or participate in community work for the other half of the day would be ideal.

Senior Melissa Sullivan also likes the current schedule. She thinks that we get a good amount of time for each class and likes that each class always gets an opportunity for long period.

Amber Deluca(Freshman)- She said that she does not like that E period is everyday, that it should be more spread out, so we have it just as much as all the other periods.

Freshman Amber Deluca said that she does not like that E period is everyday:  “It should be more spread out, so we have it just as much as all the other periods.”

Grace Roman(Freshman)- She stated that she does not like attending long period, she thinks all periods should be the same amount of time.

nunanFamily Consumer Science teacher Joanne Nunan believes it would not be a good idea to rotate the schedule. Mrs. Nunan continues, “it is difficult for parents to bring kids at different times, especially preschool.”

Miss Rizzo went to New York to see a Broadway play.

Social Studies Department chair Diana Rizzo believes that E period should rotate like all other periods, and there should be a new free period called X period.

Mr. Luthers Room

Science and Mathematics Department Chair Christopher Luther says they are looking at other schools’ schedules before deciding which type best fits Morgan.  There is no decision on a new schedule yet.
