A perfect game is a rare marker for a pitcher’s  single game performance. Twenty one times this achievement has been reached. Twenty seven batters faced and twenty seven batters set down. But yet even though it has only been accomplished a mere 21 times, the rarest single game achievement, a four home run performance, is for hitters.  Mike Cameron, Shawn Green and Carlos Delgado most recently achieved this, but it had been nine years since the last four home run game. On May 8, 2012, Josh Hamilton, a lefty center fielder for the Texas Rangers, hit an astounding four home runs including a double and 8 RBIs (runs batted in). He completed the game five for five with eighteen total bases, which was done only once before in history by Shawn Green. To say that this was a great night for baseball would be an understatement. This was a remarkable night for baseball; it was a showcase of one of the best players in the game. Josh Hamilton who struggled with drug and alcohol addictions throughout his life threw that all away as he put himself on a pedestal in front of thousands of fans. Baseball analysts will have something to talk about for weeks to come as Hamilton put himself on top of all hitting statistics in the American League.
To think that this will happen again is not a bad assumption, but to believe there may be a performance as big as this one may be unrealistic. With the number of bases reached, runs batted, and obviously the home runs, there may never be a performance as great as this one. With hopes of a site at a Triple Crown winner in the future, baseball fans will be watching Josh closely to see if he can put on a show as impressive as this one.
