Once a year, The Morgan REACT Club hosts Haunted Hallways, an event that fills the hallways with horror and leaves Clinton residents in fear. Unfortunately, this year, students will be waiting a bit longer to experience the terror, as the event has been pushed back to November 1st, due to it being under new management.
An event this big doesn’t come together overnight, though; there is a lot of planning that goes into Haunted Hallways.
The planning started three weeks ago, when leaders of REACT met to discuss plans. “The leaders of REACT have to talk to all of the club members and see what they have to do, and they have to plan out what they want the theme to be and what they think they will be able to do,” sophomore Alyssa Morrissette said. “We go for about 25 different ideas, and then we break them down to what five sections of the hallway that we can do, and then we just plan it off of that.”
Morrissette has been a part of the Morgan React Club for three years, and React seems to never fail, surprising her with their creativity. “I think they’re creative because, like, you could do your own little tiny things inside the hallway”.
As they get closer to the date, there is less and less time to get ready, and there are still many things to plan out. “You know we have to plan, like what happens and who’s bringing costumes,” Johnson said. Haunted Hallways takes lots of planning, and there’s just so much that goes into it, Johnson pointed out.
REACT stands for Reality Even Affects Clinton Teens and does much more than just planning Haunted Hallways. “React is a group that helps spread awareness and prevention of substance abuse and alcohol addiction,” said Morrissette.
Haunted Hallways spreads lots of joy and Halloween spirit throughout the school, but it is a bit behind schedule this year. ”I think Haunted Hallways does spread Halloween spirit. I feel like the only problem this year is that we’re having it in November,” said junior Annabelle Parent.
This year’s Haunted Hallway theme is ‘The Stages of Life.’ It takes place on November 1st, from 6-8, and costs $5 per person. So if you are in for a scare, come to Haunted Hallways.
This year, REACT is under new leadership, as Odali has taken over as the leader of REACT, replacing Ben, who left last year. The transition is the main reason why Haunted Hallways has been pushed back until November this year. “We are so excited to have Odali join us for REACT. She is a great member and is helping us stay on track for November 1st, just like last year.” Junior, Sophie Sharp says.
Although you only walk through the dark and scary maze for such a short time, the endless planning that goes into it and the hours it takes to set it up are all very worthwhile, and it is a great way to give REACT some recognition.
