The Morgan boys lacrosse team is hot, coming off a great win against Old Lyme on 5/13, winning 5-2, and beating Cromwell on 5/14, winning 18-4. With these two wins, it brings the Morgan team to a record of 6-4, solidifying the 15th seed in states and 5th in shorelines. Morgan has not accomplished either since 2022.
Morgan will be going up against Old Saybrook this week. Saybrook has had a great season at 10-3-1, with big wins over teams such as HK, 20-8 on 4/10, and Fitch, 18-7 on 4/26. Morgan lost to HK at the start of May, 4-15.

One of Old Saybrook’s strengths is their face off player, Wes Percival, a senior midfielder. He has won almost every face off he has taken, with a 70% win rate. This season, he has scored almost 20 goals and has over 5 assist on the season. Morgan will need to “communicate and make sure they’re playing man defense to take away the shots they take,” said captain midfielder Hunter Roth. “I think the main priorities with Old Saybrook is playing man on them and stopping the long shots. They have a great face off kid that is going to South Carolina to play club lacrosse, and I think if we shut him down, we have a real opportunity in winning this game.”
The Morgan lacrosse team has been working hard on playing on man defense and making sure to communicate. Captain Tyler Farrell says, “ we can’t stress it enough as captains, everyday we say we need to communicate and make sure that we are on top of communications and on being on the ball at all times.”
On another note, Jake Lichack, a junior captain attack men, talks about how big of a game this is, stating, “this is huge for me. I think this team grew in all the right directions and our practicing has been on point. The coaches put us in a great situation, and we are not letting off the gas.”
Jake Lichack has been sensational this season, averaging 2.6 goals per game and 1 assist per game, making him one of the leading scorers on the team. Lichack thinks he is a physical player due to always being on and off the ball. “I create chances where I’m able to find an open guy and make plays for me and the team,” Lichack said.
The Morgan team has improved dramatically with a 3-15 record last season to a record of 6-6. Hunter Roth and Tyler Farrell, said “ I think the biggest thing that we have grown in is our chemistry together as a team. I think it was a huge part of this season with everyone communicating when needed and making sure that we listen to coach everyday.” Roth agrees, “our team has looked more solid than ever. I think our offense is a lot better and more physical. We have a chance to win because of the work we put outside of practice and in practice as well, and we have just been playing better defense than last year, by putting more pressure on the hands instead of playing stick.”
Tyler Farrell is a captain and an attack man, scoring 2.6 goals per game, as well averaging 1 assist per game. Farrell understands that Old Saybrook is a great team, probably one of the best they will face this season, but sees this game as a redemption game, “When we faced them this month in May, we lost by a pretty hefty amount, so this game would be great to win we just need to focus on being a team and defense locking down their face off player.”
