In eighth grade, Jake Egan and I were in the same homeroom. Every morning, I would walk into the room tired and eager for the end of the day. As I walked in, put my stuff down, and sat down at my desk, Egan was the first to say a word to me. Every morning he would ask three questions: What did you eat for dinner last night; How was your day yesterday; and how was I doing that day. This was the highlight of my day.
If you need to smile from ear to ear, Jake Egan will never fail to make that happen. Egan is a sophomore who is 17 years old. He loves people and is very engaging. He is one of the most friendly, outgoing, and generous people at Morgan. Egan will make your day better.
Egan has many close relationships with his peers. He has always been close to Saorise O’Beirn, a sophomore. They have built many memories with each other, but O’Biren still remembers one day walking with him in the hallway, “I was in a really bad mood. I saw Jake walking, and I said hi to him as I always did. He then told me that he really liked my shirt, and I remember that that brought up my whole mood, just seeing him and having that moment with him.”
Egan has been diagnosed with a disability, but it does not define him. He has a passion for baseball, golf, track and field, and basketball.

One of Egan’s favorite athletes is his older brother. He adores being in the stands to cheer his brother on. He looks up to his brother. Egan loves many different out-of-school activities. He has a big love for concerts and live music. Egan specifically listens to country music. He adores Morgan Wallen and Luke Bryan. He loves to sing and dance to their songs.
One of the many amazing things about Egan is that he can overcome any challenge that comes his way.
Jennifer Paul, a special education teacher who has been working with Egan since sixth grade, said, “Jake is one of the most tenacious and determined people I have ever met. When Jake is faced with a problem, he never gives up. He rarely gets frustrated. He keeps at it.”
The perseverance that Egan has is incredible. Even if a challenge comes his way, he pushes through it. He has grown so much in every way. His determination is an inspiration to many. Even though he faces hardships, he still appears to be a positive face in the hallways.
One of Egan’s special education teachers, Mary Ann Esabrook, states, “Jake is a miracle in every sense of the word. Since his birth, his family has been told that there are many things he would never be able to do on his own. It’s been my honor to have a front-row seat to watch him prove everyone wrong.”

Egan has the ability to give people a different perspective on any situation. His outgoing personality has a positive effect on people. When the mood or vibe in the room is depressing, he makes sure it turns around to bright and happy. Even if Egan doesn’t know he has a huge impact on many, he is turning people’s days around.
Sophomore Emma Holecz has been close with Egan since kindergarten. She adores him in every way. Holecz explains how Egan positively affects her. “Jake always brings a smile to my face with his positive comments. When I’m having a bad day, I can always count on Jake to put a smile on my face.”
Students look forward to seeing Egan in the hallway, classes, or after school. Egan is always happy and excited to talk to everyone. His smile brightens the whole room.
Hernika Singh, a sophomore, has been going to school with Egan since kindergarten. She has grown closer to him this year since she has advisory him. Singh says, “I look forward to advisory every Thursday because that means I get to hang out and talk to Jake. Our conversations are always light but very entertaining, and he certainly can light up somebody’s day.”
Egan has many positive messages that he likes to share with people, but there is one in particular that makes you feel joy. Egan described what he would say to someone to make them smile, he said, “The thing I would say is that I love you.” Not only does he have an effect with his words, but also with his body language and physical actions. Egan loves to give people hugs. When you get a hug from him, you feel special.
A sophomore, Mekai Howard, says, “One time I was having a pretty bad day, and he shouted my name and said hey buddy! He gave me a hug, and we talked about many things after that.”

Jake Egan is an extraordinary student and an amazing person. He is one of the students who make this school a better place. He is loved by all.
Estabrook ends with, “Our community is a better place because he is a part of it.”
