The Huskies have faced the Bellringers in the beginning of the season on their home mound on April 11th coming out with the win of 11-4.
The wet muddy conditions of the game were not spectacular, but that did not stop the play of the game. The first inning started off smooth for the Huskies by Sophomore Benjamin Brown at bat. Brown hit a double in the top of the first inning, leading the boys on his back. Even though Brown hit a double in the beginning of the game to start the Huskies, they didn’t take the lead until later in the game. The Huskies had a slow start hitting the ball in the direction they aimed to hit at but the anticipation lifted more beyond the third inning.
The Huskies picked up their pace of play to get on the board in the third inning after Brown scored his second double of the game.
The game was tied at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning when junior outfielder Zach Viens drew a walk, scoring one run when bringing his guys home. The Bellringers captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the third after Travis Raines singled to center field, and Jaxon Hanson hit a sacrifice fly. Junior Travis Aiken committed an error against the Bellringers and Blake Kapernaros singled to center field, each scoring the Bellringers one run each.
The Huskies tied the game in the top of the fourth inning after sophomore Trevor Powell hit a double, and Brown drove him home with a single.
Powell, who earned the win for the Huskies, started the game pitching for the Huskies and surrendered eight hits and four runs (two earned) over the course of five innings, striking out three and walking no Bellringer athletes. Senior Creighton Johnson then stepped on the mound, in the seventh inning, pitching two innings of all shutout ball for the Huskies. Johnson gave up only two hits, striking out two and walking no Bellringers.
Bellrininger Caleb Wagner began the game for East Hampton. Wagner allowed four hits and four runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking four of the Huskies. Mason Jank took the loss for East Hampton, as Jank went in for pitcher relief in the sixth inning. He went three and one-third innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four and walking three of the Huskies.
Overall the Huskies had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks in the entire game.
Some of those walks consisted of pitcher Creighton Johnson and sophomore Jack Henry Palazzo with two each.
The next game for the Huskies is Wednesday, May 21st at 6:00PM at the Indian River Complex against Hand. That day, the team will celebrate their seniors, captain Wyatt Luke, captain Creighton Johnson, captain Dominic Larabee, captain Micheal Ferraiolo and Hunter Manciani.
