Thursday, April 24, the Morgan girls lacrosse team took the field at 3:45 to take on an in conference matchup against Cromwell at the Indian River turf, ending in Morgan getting the win with a score of 14-10.

The game started off with Morgan sophomore Emma Teuner cutting to the goal and scoring in the first 15 seconds after Morgan won the first draw. Sophomore Gwen Madura, an attacker who plays with Teuner shared, “Emma helped the team lead early and was a huge contributor to our win against Cromwell.”
The lead, however, did not last, as Cromwell responded with a settled offense into a drive leading to a goal.
The first quarter was back and forth between Morgan and Cromwell, ending with Morgan four, Cromwell three.
Bill Lindsay, the head coach of the Morgan girls lacrosse team, thought the start of the game was excellent. “We came out, and we dictated the tempo and what we were doing to them rather than us letting them dictate it” he said.
In the beginning of the second quarter, the momentum changed for Morgan. Sophomore midfielder Emma Holecz said, “I feel like the momentum definitely switched after we started utilizing the middle of the field on offense. After we started opening up their zone, everyone was able to either find a lane to drive or find a cutter. After we scored a couple and continued to win the draws, we felt like we had taken control of the game and its tempo.”

After the Cromwell goalie was found without a mouth guard, Morgan began to gain the power that they needed. Teuner with two, sophomore Nora Winsor and Holecz with one each, finished out the half with Morgan out scoring Cromwell 6-4 in the second.
With Morgan dominating the second quarter, the half ended 10-7 Morgan.
After half, Cromwell came out fighting, scoring first, but shortly after, Winsor cut to the goal and scored another for Morgan.
Windsor shared, “when we are losing and frantic, it is sometimes hard, but we all come together and figure out what our mistakes were and try to fix it.”
Morgan in the third quarter began to see the win, ending in 13-8.
After the fourth quarter, the game ended 14-10 and Morgan had their fourth win of the season.
Lindsay shared, “It was a pretty close game, and we kept the lead, so every time they would score and make it close, we would go back and score to keep the lead.”

Morgan had 14 goals, 8 assists, and 28 shots on goal. Holecz had six goals and three assists, Teuner had five goals and two assists, sophomore Sam Weinzimmer had one goal, Windsor had two goals and one assist, Madura had one assist, and senior Cora Dunham had one assist.
Thursday, May 1, the team will face HK for the second time this season on the Haddam Killingworth Press Box Field at 4:00. With three in conference matchups this week, the team is continuing to fight for their spot in the Shoreline Conference Tournament.
