Senior Michael Fusco dominates in all three sports he plays, but last year in outdoor track, he received something he would never forget. In his junior year, Fusco broke the Morgan 100-meter dash record, which was previously set by Bryce Thomas at 11.37 seconds. Fusco ran it in 11.08 seconds.
“That kind of paved my path and set my expectations higher for many people and myself, he said.” After Fusco found out about his accomplishment, he told the people he looked up to most, starting with his older brother, Salvatore.
Fusco’s brother, Salvatore, is ten years older than him. Salvatore played football, soccer, and baseball. But he didn’t have a goal for sports, it was never really his passion. The reason why he called his brother on the day of his record was that he thought he would be the most excited to hear about his achievement. According to Fusco, he had always been his biggest supporter. Fusco said that his brother knows how much work Fusco puts in. Fusco has always looked up to his brother because he is willing to follow his heart and do what he loves, and won’t let people tell him he can or cannot do something. He sees his brother as a person who will do things because he wants to, not because somebody told him to.
That attitude is what Fusco embraces in his own life. Fusco has been a captain for all three sports. “I was a captain from my junior year to my senior year. It’s just someone who can be, you know, helpful to younger people, where you can talk to someone. They don’t necessarily need to be good at the sport, but they n
eed to be a hard worker. Whether that’s in practice or games.” Fusco learned from Salvatore always to do what’s best for the team, always taking in other people’s opinions of other captains and especially other players.
Michael Fusco is a senior soccer and indoor and outdoor track captain at the Morgan School. Sports run in his family. Although Fusco has been playing soccer since he was around six years old, his father, Felice Fusco, played professional soccer in Italy for the Casertana second division team.
This past season, Fusco played center back on the Morgan boys soccer team for the entire season. On the Morgan track team, he does everything from the 55-yard dash indoors to the 400-meter outdoor. For outdoor, he does the 300-meter, 400-meter, 200-meter, and 100-meter dash.
Fusco’s brother Salvatore has his own motorcycle business where they do show riding,, vlogging it on YouTube for their fans to see. They make money off of social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. His brother makes a very good living out of something he likes to do, and Fusco looks up to that.
He has his own decision to make. Fusco’s family wants him to go to Gateway Community College for two years in finance, but he is leaning towards going to a four-year college. Ultimately, to him, it is a financial decision and Fusco is stuck in between. Currently, the main school he is hoping to get money back from is Roger Williams University, which is a university in Rhode Island. Fusco said, “I plan to major in mechanical engineering, and I’m not too sure about track and field. I’ve received some offers, but I haven’t talked to many coaches. It’s probably going to be something I just do for fun.”
Michael Fusco shows a great attitude in sports and shows that you don’t have to follow and do what others tell you to do. He has been a great athlete and mentor to the underclassmen this season, his future is very bright.
