From 7:30 am to 2:10 pm, Corbin walks the halls of Morgan as the School Resources Officer, but find him at 3:00 pm, and you will find a sidekick dad, helping fight monsters in his kids’ imaginations.
Corbin has two kids that he says take up most of his time, but he couldn’t wish for anything better. Having a son, Finley, who is 10 months, and daughter, Gemma, who is four, he is always on adventures. Gemma is his personal hype person. She laughs at his cringy dad jokes and is a confidence booster for Corbin. With her big imagination, she loves taking Corbin in her worlds.

Her most recent game is pretending their whole backyard is underwater. Using her play set as the ship, she goes out and rescues stranded “minions” with the help of her sidekick, Corbin. Sometimes these “missions” involve “swimming.” Corbin lets out his chickens, but in Gemma’s eyes, those are the sharks they have to save the “minions” from!
Corbin loves soaking up all the time he can because he knows they grow up fast. “There are gonna be times when you’re tired; you come home from work and just wanna crash on the couch. With kids, you have to just power through that because they are going to grow up quick,” Corbin explained.
Corbin is on a mission to take his kids to all the national parks. They have gone to a few while traveling. Traveling is something they love to do as a family along with camping. They love to disconnect from the internet and make memories that will last forever. Corbin loves watching his daughter, Gemma, act like a totally different girl when they go camping. “She’s home, and she’s one kid, and then whenever we go camping, then it’s camp Gemma, her hair is all messy and dirt under her fingernails,” said Corbin.
Corbin also has a hobby that not a lot of people know about. He enjoys spending his time barbecuing and feeding the people he loves. Barbecue is something he takes very seriously and is passionate about. He says getting good at barbecue comes from experience and trying new things. His all-time favorite thing to make is brisket. He loves making it, but doesn’t do it often because it is not what he is best at. What he is best at? Pulled pork and spare ribs.
He learned about barbecuing when he went to Arkansas to visit his brother. Although he didn’t grow up with a barbecue, Arkansas changed him. On a trip to Bentonville, Arkansas, to visit his brother, he tasted the best meal of his life and knew he needed to learn to barbecue for himself. From there, he studied all there is to know about barbecuing, even going as far as to collect books. He is also a part of the meat church congregation. Which is an online community of people that love to barbecue and learn whatever they can about it.
Corbin’s world revolves around family and barbecuing but also his best friend Jagger. Jagger is the therapy dog at The Morgan School and is there to help kids who may be struggling. When Corbin was introduced to Jagger it was a learning curve. He went from being the School Resource Officer to also being a handler.
When Corbin was first introduced to Jagger in 2022 after he was seized by the state during an animal cruelty investigation. Jagger was supposed to be a replacement for an aging canine in the division. Jagger was determined unfit for that kind of role because he was too nice. “He is just kinda too nice; he is the biggest sweetheart,” said Corbin.
Growing up with German Shepards, Corbin knew the breed very well, but he never had to take

on the role of being a handler. In law enforcement, you’re expected to be perfect, but Jagger is not perfect. “When I see his imperfections come out, where the rescue dog in him comes out, that was tough for me initially to kind of get over,“ explained Corbin.
Corbins goal was to expose Jagger to as much as he could to show him how big the world is outside of what he knew and to grow his confidence. The biggest compliment to Corbin is giving Jagger the recognition he deserves. Telling Corbin that you can see the progress Jagger has made since 2022 and the effort the entire Police Department and Corbin put in to give him that recognition is something that makes his day.
After the learning curve, Corbin feels it made his job very rewarding and easier. Animals have an amazing impact on people struggling with anxiety, loneliness, depression, etc. Corbin loves working with his best friend. “I can say hands down being the SRO and the therapy dog handler is just gonna be the highlight of my career,” said Corbin.
