ESL Senior Decisions
Introduction

The ESL ( English as a second language) or ML (Multilingual Learner). This program celebrates the linguistic and cultural diversity of students by providing support for those acquiring English as an additional language. The program offers English language development classes, classroom assistance, small group instruction, and access to a multilingual lending library. ML specialists collaborate with subject teachers to provide an inclusive and empowering learning environment. The program operates in multiple schools, from elementary to secondary, and coordinates with the adult education program to support families of English learners.

PawPrint sat down with several members of the ESL class to find out what decisions the seniors made to do after school. This is also geared toward future seniors so they too have information on what they can choose to do after graduation.

After school she wants to work and study. She is not sure yet if she wants to go to Gateway Community College or go straight to a four-year college. She wants to study and live here in Connecticut and possibly in the future live in another state. In a few years she sees herself as an entrepreneur focused on her work and doing her best.

“I have always liked veterinary medicine, because since I was little I have had a fondness for animals and I have always thought that caring for them is just as important as caring for a person”.

After graduating, he plans to work and learn English. In the future, he wants to improve his income and invest in his home country (Ecuador).

“I would like to be able to do that to get ahead and help my family and to be able to continue learning English since it is something very important that will help me. I recommend that future seniors put in a lot of effort and always have a goal since it can be achieved if you set your mind to it”.

After high school he wants to do two years of community college at Gateway Community College and specialize in electronics so he can have a stable job and focus on his future.

“One recommendation I give to future seniors is not to be influenced by negative attitudes because they have to focus twice or three times as much because now there are more difficult things to come and the important thing is to do well until the end without giving up.

After graduating, he plans to study for two years at Gateway Community College in New York City, while also working and continuing to learn more English. After two years of community college, he plans to pursue a career in engineering, art, or he would like to enter culinary school and become a professional chef in New York City.

“ I’ve always been interested in doing different things and I feel like New York City is full of opportunities.”

Nayeli Yupa

After graduating from high school, she plans to study two years of community college at Gateway Community College in New Haven. After completing her two years, she plans to enroll in a university in Hartford to study something related to medicine, specifically nursing. If her plans to enroll at the University of Hartford do not work out, she plans to go to study in Spain.

After high school he plans to attend Gateway Community College to complete the two-year course and major in auto mechanics. He would like to move to another state, but first he wants to work and save enough to be able to move.

“ One piece of advice I give is not to worry too much about the career you are going to choose. You can make mistakes and change, it is very normal. Don’t think that this decision is in your mind the most important one of your life.”
