Whether it’s on the soccer or lacrosse field, the basketball court, the stage, or the classroom, if you meet senior Liliana Luciani, you will always be met with positive energy and a smile.
Six freshman experienced this first hand as they joined the morgan girls soccer team this fall, and were welcomed in by Luciani and encouraged to join the team in the team bonding activities.
Luciani was a captain for the Morgan girls soccer team this past season, leading them to a state championship.“Luc was a key part in getting us to the championship. Her energy kept us going, and she made playing so much fun,” said Sophomore, Nora Winsor.
Luciani is also currently a captain of the Morgan girls basketball team, making a huge impact on assists and rebounds and leading them to a 8-1 record. During Morgan’s 43-27 victory over East Hampton on January 3, Luciani recorded six offensive rebounds and four defensive rebounds, along with four assists. Luciani has averaged three assists per game, and 2.7 steals per game. Luciani also leads the team in offensive rebounds with an average of 4.7 per game.
Those efforts have not gone unnoticed. “Lili being a captain for our team has brought a lot of success on and off the court. She has a lot of energy that is very contagious, making other athletes work just as hard,” said Junior, Jacquelyn Ciarleglio.
Luciani is also anticipating becoming the captain of the lacrosse team in the spring, although it has not been announced yet. She started playing lacrosse her sophomore year, and has started varsity both her sophomore and junior year. She led her team in ground balls her junior year with 45 ground balls throughout the whole season. She has played in 33 total varsity games throughout her career.
Lili Luciani is not only involved in sports, but also is in several clubs in Morgan. Luciani has been part of spirit squad and interact for the past three years, and has been a part of student government for the past two years. Lili is a secretary for interact, gaining a leadership role. She has also joined the pickleball club for the first time this year.
“She always brings a really positive, energetic vibe to class. She is great with participation, she is willing to work with all her peers, and she really stood out as a leader in group activities,” pointed out, teacher, Mrs. Mazzarella.
Luciani is undecided on where she is going to college, but she wants to major in environmental engineering. She is a part of the national honors society, the Spanish honors society, and the tech national honors society.
“I’ve seen her demonstrate intellectual integrity in the classroom, always making sure she does her own work,” said Mrs. Mazzarella. “She puts a lot of effort forth, asking for help when she needs it.”
Luciani continues to exceed expectations in all she does, and her legacy will be remembered at The Morgan School.
