The Morgan football team won there first game of the season on there senior night at the Old Saybrook high school last Friday night
The whistle blew and it was kickoff! Morgan High School played Weaver High School out of Hartford.
Both teams were 0-5 and we’re striving for a win. Morgan football took a tough loss on week one against valley. This motivated morgn to push themselves.
Morgan kicked the ball off to Weaver to start the game. Weaver received the kick and came out hot on offense, scoring early in the first quarter by running the ball from the 5-yard line. After the Morgan Huskies battled on defense, they huddled up and came back with answers. Morgan came up with a few plays that marched them donw the field and score a touchdown. Trevor Powell, Morgan’s starting quarterback, had the team fired up. The team had lots of energy and were ready to play. The Huskies quickly returned fire with a 10 yard touchdown throw from sophomore quarterback, Trevor Powell to wide receiver, Wes Percival. Wes is a Senior from the Old Saybrook High school. The score was 6-7.
The Dog Pound started to cheer and do chants like normal! They started to chant the Morgan Rumble.
As the second quarter rolled around the game got more intense. After the first quarter it was 6-14 cause senior, Hunter Roth scored a touchdown as well. Hunter plays linebacker, runningback, reciever and corner. It was a close game and both teams wanted their first win. Weaver who started the ball with the possession, received the kick and returned it to around the 20-yard line. Then the Huskies battled to get a stop, forcing a punt. The Husky offense marched down the field quickly and was looking to gain momentum. Trevor snapped the ball on about the 10 yard line and threw up another pass to Wes. Wes is one Trevors favorite receiver to throw to. Wes came down with it again and had given the Huskies the lead, by scoring his second touchdown of the night. From here on out, Morgan didnt slow down. At halftime, it was 6-21.
The second half started off just like the first half ended, with touchdown. Tristan Elliot, an inside linebacker for Morgan, picked up a loose ball recovery on a fumble by Weavers running back and ran it back for a touchdown. Tristan is a junior plays inside linebacker. The Dog Pound was enthusiastic and loud because the Huskies were winning. The Huskies ended up going on to win the game 36-6 and had a great game on Friday Night.
The Huskies ended up scoring one more touchdown afterward to go on and win the game. Griffin Raunado, who scored the final touchdown of the night, stated, “It was a great game, and we got everybody involved as much as we could.” Griffin is the team’s punter/kicker and wide receiver.
The seniors and their teammates felt even better winning because it was their senior night. All the Morgan Huskies seniors were celebrated prior to the start of the game. The ceremonies consisted of having the kid and his parents walk out and get announced over loudspeaker. The twelve seniors were Griffin Raunado, Wes Percival, Hunter Roth, Luke Mccomiskey, Carson Dowd, Tyler Finezo, Logan Ryan, Ethan Lane, Dom Larabee, Tyler Farrel, Tyshawn Davis and Brandon Hester. The Huskies are looking forward to playing Capital Prep this week on friday night and keep the energy rolling. Capital Prep is 5-0 and are playing Morgan at their field. Morgan continues to hopefully keep the energy going.
