The 2024 Homecoming football game was a night to remember for all students and faculty. The field lights lit up the night. The energy was vibrant and buzzing from the players and Dog Pound. On Friday, October 4th, the MSW football team took Cromwell at Ethel Peter’s Recreational Complex.
The night began with a big kick-off, everyone was chanting. The Dog Pound was filled with kids from all grades and schools. The sideline cheerleaders had just finished up their stretching to get ready for the night and their infamous halftime routine. Fans bought food from the outdoor concession stand, cheerleaders baked goods, fundraiser sold shirts near the bleachers, and MSW football took the field.
For the Huskies, the first quarter started out strong. After several back and forth moments, Senior, Tyshawn Davis, ran back an interception right before the end of the first quarter. Cromwell also made a touchdown, leading to both teams being tied seven by seven at the end of the quarter.
“I believe the team came out strong, the best we have started all season,” said MSW football head coach Casey Trasacco.
The second quarter began with a great start. Again number four, senior Tyshawn Davis made a catch for a touchdown. The quarter finished up with Cromwell also making a great touchdown. In both quarters one and two, the teams tied, ending the first half with a fourteen to fourteen score.
At halftime, The field was cleared of football players from both teams to allow for the cheerleaders to line up side-to-side. Homecoming court, voted on by students, made their way onto the field to take photos and celebrate the end of Homecoming week at Morgan.
Next, the cheerleading team took to the field to perform their halftime routine. They started up with a pyramid. Next up, they all split up to hit their tumbling tricks. All of the cheerleaders line back up to do their final dance. They finish up the routine to a loud applause from the crowd.
As successful as halftime was, the second half started rough for the Huskies. There were some great runs from both teams, until Cromwell scored a touchdown, then another. Ending the quarter with the score 14 to 36.
The game quickly unraveled from that point forward, with Cromwell scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The final score, as the buzzer rang, was 14 for MSW and 41.
Although MSW has suffered another loss, it still hasn’t discouraged the coach or the players.
Head coach, Trasacco, reflected on the game as he looked forward to the next, “There were a lot of great moments and clear signs of improvement during the game. I feel that we have some things to correct as well… We are improving every week and competing with quality football teams. I am very proud of how far the team has come along, we have to continue to believe in ourselves and get a victory soon!”
Despite the difficult loss, players remain focused on the future. “We did great tonight,” said Sophomore, Pedro Reis, “hopefully, next time we can power through in the next game.” So for the football homecoming game, no one had left upset. It’s always a good night to remember, no matter what you were doing to contribute.”
