This year, a new Algebra teacher has arrived at Morgan, Connor Moran. Mr. Moran is passionate about math and has a special connection with Morgan – he went here. Mr. Moran, who graduated in 2015 from Morgan, is now returning as an enthusiastic teacher ready to teach his students a lot about Algebra.
“There are many familiar things, many of the teachers I had during my high school years are still here. I feel familiar but simultaneously different, being in a new building with very different things than the old Morgan,” Mr. Moran said.
Mr. Moran graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Education.
Mr. Moran remembers his high school years as his first step into teaching. He says that he worked at a camp teaching children ages 5-13, where for the first time he felt the desire to teach. One of the people who inspired him and recommended that he could be a good teacher was Assistant Principal Christopher Luther, who was his AP Biology teacher for Mr. Moran’s senior year. “I think the person who inspired me and told me to think about being a teacher was Mr. Luther. I remember one time in his class when I handed in a project, and he said to me that I had never thought about being a teacher, and from there I started thinking about it.”
Assistant Manager Christopher Luther, who was his AP Biology teacher and also Mr. Moran’s inspiration to be a teacher, said, “He was a much more mature person than many of his classmates. I realized that he had a talent for teaching, especially when we did a presentation one time and his presentation was the best of many presentations that year. I remember being very proud of him and how he knew how to use the simplest of ways to make everyone understand and be able to grasp the subject.”
Mr. Luther also said, “I’m not surprised to see him back here at Morgan as a teacher as he was always a very kind and hard-working person who was always fun in class as he liked to joke around with me and his classmates. I know he will be a good role model for his students. It was good to have him as a student, and it’s good to have him back as a teacher.”
During these first months of school, Mr. Moran said, “I have felt good during these first months, I am still getting used to knowing where everything is and remembering my students’ names.”
Mr. Moran, an enthusiastic teacher, has already connected with the school spirit that exists in the school. He is surprised by the joy and passion with which he sees his students and the other students in the hallways. “I find it surprising not to see any student bored during the day. It is also very funny how in six weeks of school, we have already had three spirit weeks on different topics.”
Mr. Moran would like to implement new strategies in his class so that his students do not feel bored during classes. He would like to implement many interesting activities. He said, “I would not like to just have the students do a big problem and that’s it. I would like to do a project where each student has to research a mathematical term and who invented it.”
Mr. Moran is a person who in his free time likes to watch television, fix things in his new house, and also likes to cook. One of the meals he likes to prepare the most is a Steak Bowl similar to the one at Chipotle.
One piece of advice he wants to give his students is,”always keep an open mind because inspiration comes at the most unexpected times and from the most unexpected places, so you always have to have a good attitude”.
