Homecoming season is a time of year when the chaos of appointments and shopping commences. However, the main part of the planning process is finding the perfect dress. There are so many aspects that people look for when choosing their dress. This includes color, style, material, and so much more. It can be a difficult decision, but these Morgan students happily found the dresses that are just right for them.

Emerson Dunning, a sophomore at Morgan, has been well-prepared with her homecoming dress since late August. She had been on a vacation in Maine with her family to attend a wedding when they decided to go to the mall. She went into the Windsor store, tried on some dresses and that’s when she found her homecoming dress. The dress was light pink and had a pattern of butterflies with sequins. The top of the dress was tight, and the bottom was flowy. The straps of the dress were slightly ruffled with a tie-up back.
The color influenced her decision because she found that pink was better for her than the original color she wanted, yellow. She felt very comfortable and confident in the dress. She picked sparkly heels because they were flashy and fitting for the event. She wore a gold necklace with a butterfly which matched with her gold everyday jewelry that she also wore. The dress lived up to Emerson’s expectations, as she had said “So many people complimented my dress and told me they liked it which made me happy.” Emerson’s favorite memory of the night was dancing with her friend Maria Hickey, a Daniel Hand High School student.

Destiny is a freshman at Morgan. Her dress was navy blue, long sleeve, short, and square neckline. She bought her dress in mid-September from Amazon. She wanted the dress to be long-sleeved because she thought it looked cool and was different, and she liked the color navy blue. She just scrolled through Amazon and found it. Her favorite part of the dress was the sleeves because they were mesh. The color influenced her choice a lot. She wanted a dark color from the start, so what ultimately made her pick the dress was that it was the perfect encapsulation of what she was looking for in a dress. She wore her everyday necklace which is silver and the pearl earrings she bought from Shein. She wore white platform Converse for both pictures and to the dance. In the end, her dress lived up to her expectations. One memory she made in the dress was when the song “FE!N” by Travis Scott played. “My friends and I went crazy because we love that song,” said Destiny. Everyone was dancing and jumping to the beat.

Angelie Jaramilo Navas, a senior at Morgan wore a silk, turquoise, strapless dress that was tight at the top and became flowy. She bought her dress from Windsor two weeks before homecoming. “My favorite part of the dress was how it became flowy towards the bottom,” said Angelie. The color influenced her choice, but the style influenced it the most because it suited her best and fit her well in her opinion. She wore gold jewelry because she has always preferred gold jewelry to silver. She got her nails done at Sophia’s in Clinton with gold on them to match, and she thought it was a good accent color with the turquoise. She also put the initial C on her nail using the color of her dress to coordinate. The initial stood for her boyfriend’s name. She did not like heels or sandals, so she wore black Converse. She has worn these in years past so she wanted to do it again. Overall, the dress lived up to her expectations and she was absolutely in love with the dress. Specifically, she loved how it looked in her pictures.

Whittney is a junior at Morgan. Her dress was red, silk, had a ruffled top, and had a slit. She was looking for a red dress that was a reasonable price, would deliver on time, and was silk. She bought it online from a clothing site named Hello Molly. On social media, she saw Hello Molly had a bunch of good dresses, so she went on the website and searched for her dress necessities. She was scrolling through different homecoming dresses, and it caught her eye. She originally thought the dress looked weird when she tried it on for the first time, but she liked it a lot after wearing it for a longer period. From the start, color influenced her choice because she knew she wanted red She paired the dress with nude heels from last year and her everyday jewelry. She also bought a new Gold Kendra Scott necklace. Her favorite memory in the dress from homecoming was dancing to Pitbull with her friends Isabelle West and Amber Maikowski. The dress did meet her expectations and was everything she had hoped for.

Gretchen Guelke, a sophomore at Morgan picked a strapless, navy blue dress that was ordered online from Princess Polly. After looking on TikTok for ideas a week before the event, she found herself scrolling through the Princess Polly website, where she then found the dress. Her favorite part of the dress was the color. It said that it suited her skin tone and features due to the shiny material. From the start, Gretchen knew she wanted a dark blue dress, having a large influence on her purchase. The A-line cut and color ultimately made her pick the dress. She wore shoes she already had and that matched, along with her everyday gold jewelry She says the dress did live up to her expectations of how it looked, however, it was a little short and uncomfortable. This did not affect the pictures she took. The best memory she made was taking pictures with her friends before the actual dance.

Haley Dvorsky, a freshman at Morgan wore a light green dress that was open in the back and tied up. The material was a mesh with sequins on it configured in a sophisticated pattern. The neckline was square and straight across. She bought it in mid-September in person at Windsor. Her favorite part of the dress was how it was open back and wasn’t just the fabric all the way around. The color didn’t influence her choice one bit. She picked the dress because it went with the theme of the dance which was Enchanted Forest. All the other dresses she tried on were out of her price range or didn’t fit her the way she wanted them to. She said to herself, “This is cute” and “I look good in it,” so she picked it. Her mom picked her accessories for her. She wore white wedges, gold jewelry, and white French tip presses on nails. The dress lived up to her expectations. Her favorite moment from the night was when she got closer to one of her old friends.

Melanie Pugo, a senior at Morgan picked a dress that had spaghetti straps, a v-neck, a slit, and it was short. It was a maroon color and a velvet-like material. She bought the dress last year from Windsor. She wasn’t planning on going to homecoming originally, so she had to come up with something last minute. She found the dress in her closet because last year she bought two dress options for homecoming. She ended up not wearing the maroon dress, so she decided to wear it this year. Her favorite part of the dress was the color and how it matched her skin tone. She also prefers dresses with slits, and it was a tight-fitting dress which she also prefers. The color influenced her choice because she had an alternate dress that was black, but she wasn’t liking the color because she felt it was too simple. She thought that not a lot of people would wear the color maroon, so it would be unique. The style of the dress ultimately made her pick it because the black dress was a fluffy material, and it made her look boxy, which she didn’t like, as opposed to the maroon dress.
The jewelry was originally going to be silver, but when she tried the silver on with the maroon she didn’t like how it looked, so she went with the gold jewelry. She was also influenced by the fact that a lot of people wear gold jewelry and the fact that it looks nice on others. She was somewhat following the trend. She didn’t want to wear Converse because she wore them for homecoming her sophomore and junior years She tried something new, and she wore white wedges. The dress lived up to her expectations because in her words, “when we took a group photo of volleyball girls, I realized that all the colors of our dresses looked nice and were aesthetically pleasing combined, but each stood out uniquely.” One memory she made was when she and her two friends Cora Dunham and Alyssa Ruthstrom went to the center of the dance circle.
