Valentine’s Day Fundraiser for ADL
Raffle Baskets Raffled off for the IRIS Run
On Wednesday, February 1st, Morgan’s Anti-Defamation League, also known as ADL, held a fundraiser at Morgan Wrestling Senior Night to raise money for the IRIS Refugee Run. They raffled two baskets, one was a Valentine’s Day-themed basket to celebrate the upcoming holiday and the other basket was Morgan apparel to represent the high school. At the end of the match, the club raised $60 from raffle basket donations going to the IRIS Run. At the end of the match, the club raised $60 from raffle basket donations going to the IRIS Run.
The Valentine’s Day basket included items like a Romance genre DVD, a variety of candies, and Valentine’s Day socks. The Morgan basket included a Morgan t-shirt and blue-themed items to represent Morgan’s colors. Last year, ADL held the same fundraiser at a boys’ home basketball game for the IRIS Run. Unfortunately, last year ADL club students weren’t able to do the IRIS run because of the weather, but all funds went right to the cause.
Sara Gelven, a senior at Morgan was the one who started the Anti-Defamation League club. She comes up with most of the ideas behind each fundraiser.
The IRIS Refugee Run is held on Sunday, February 12th and supports refugees by raising money to help immigrants with housing, healthcare, jobs, education, and more. Once a team raises $200, the entry fee is refunded and teams can run without being charged. Morgan ADL plans to run in the IRIS run and wanted to fundraise to support the refugees. IRIS stands for Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services. The organization provides a variety of services to provide long-term support for successful integration of refugees seeking help. If you want to get involved visit their website to register for the run. It is a 5K and welcomes teams or individuals to run or walk in the 5k.
