Everyone is getting ready to say goodbye to the senior class of 2013, and two faculty members in the math department: Mr. Grippo and Mrs. Shugrue.  I went to interview them to see how they felt about retiring.

Do you have any plans after you retire?
“I will be tutoring.” -Mrs. Shugrue
“I have no major plans; I’m going to get a dog.” – Mr. Grippo

What will you remember most about your time here at Morgan?
“The students and faculty!” – Mrs. Shugrue
“The students I taught, the best part about my job was teaching.”- Mr. Grippo

How many years have you taught?
“32 years, 20 here at Morgan.”- Mrs. Shugrue
“35 years.”- Mr. Grippo

What has changed here at Morgan since you’ve been teaching?
“The friendliness between teachers and students. I feel closer to the students I am teaching now.”- Mrs. Shugrue

What was your favorite class to teach?
“Algebra two!”- Mrs. Shugrue
“Honors algebra two”- Mr. Grippo

Do you have any advice for new teachers or students that you’re leaving behind?
“Be positive, do your personal best!”- Mrs. Shugrue
“Do your homework.”-Mr. Grippo

Mr. Grippo will also be coming back for coaching for volleyball and basketball, so students won’t be missing out on seeing him completely!

So as teachers, friends, and family are saying goodbye and congrats to all the seniors remember to thank Mr. Grippo and Mrs. Shugrue along with a friendly goodbye.

“Mrs. Shugrue will always make time for students.  If a students needs extra help,  she will go out of her way to make time in her schedule to help make them successful,” said Mikhela Hull. “Mrs. Shugrue and Mr. Grippo are always showing the way a math problem is solved, which is great for  visual learners like me,” said Santiago  Sanchez. “He makes you a competitor,” said Katt Wilkinson. “Shugrue is always there to help.” said Maria Putnam “Students are going to be missing her because she likes to joke around with her students; she understands there needs to be time for laughter and work.” said Liz Bradley
