On October 8, 2019, Alex Taylor and Angelica Moquete came to our school to introduce the CT Youth Forum. The CT Youth Forum is a nonprofit organization that brings teens from all over CT together to talk about issues such as politics, global affairs, music, and many more. The organization welcomes many special guests such as Michelle Obama, John Legend, and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Consumer Science Teacher Susan Murphy is in charge of gathering students to attend the monthly meetings. Ms. Murphy got involved with the forum during her time at Bacon Academy in Colchester, CT. At Bacon Academy, up to 30 kids got involved with forum. Ms. Murphy feels that it can help students become more open and confident. Students from Bacon Academy that attended made life long friends and still talk with them. Students that attend the meetings get free tickets to the CT Forum events at the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford.

A select number of students who are part of the CT Youth Forum are selected to have dinner with the special guest that night. One of the past guests that Ms. Murphy’s students got to have dinner with was Seth Meyers. After the dinner students got to go to the event in a limo. Ms. Murphy enjoys hearing about the topics that are important to teens across the state. She also mentioned that she finds it interesting that different towns have different issues that they’re dealing with.

Last year when the forum was introduced there were no students who were interested. This year Morgan students will get involved and attend the CT Youth Forum. 7 students attended the first session. The next meeting is on November 19th at 10:30. See Ms. Murphy for permission slips.
