This year marks the first time since the 2015-2016 season that the Morgan Boys Basketball team has qualified for the Class S State Tournament. The team finished the regular season with a record of 14-6, which earned them a spot in both the Shoreline and State tournaments.
Senior captain Garrett Johnson, who was on 2015-2016 team along with the other seniors currently playing, said he is, “very excited that the team was able to make the state tournament this year because it shows that all of their hard work throughout the season has paid off”.
On Tuesday, March 5 the boys played in the first round of the state tournament and were able to pull out a win versus Morgan’s historic rival, Haddam-Killingworth, with a final score of 56-54. Sophomore Zach Johnson secured the victory by scoring a 3 pointer with under 15 seconds left in the game to give the Huskies the lead.
The second round of states will be played on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00pm in the Morgan Gymnasium versus Terryville.
