The Morgan Girls Field Hockey team recently finished their season with a 2-0 loss to Suffield on Senior Night. Senior Night celebrated seniors Kitty Short, Chelsea Piccirillo, Krystina Lecuyer, and Bea Atengo. The team finished the season with four wins, 11 losses, and a tie. The team definitely made strides from previous years, which can be credited to their extreme dedication and hard work as a team.
In the 2018 season, Morgan field hockey started the season off with several wins over teams such as Haddam- Killingworth (twice) and Somers. For the first time in years, they were considered a team to beat. Biology teacher Emily Lisy filled the position of head coach after the retirement of the previous coach, Melissa Fritze. Mrs. Lisy’s knowledge allowed the team to finally prove themselves on the field.
Morgan field hockey hit a rough spot when their varsity goalkeeper, Abby Gordon received a concussion in the game against Westbrook. The team also lost a great midfielder in Delaney Mastriano before the Senior Night game. Despite this Freshman Brittany Chapman and Maggie O’Donnell stepped up and played well given the circumstances.
Going into next season, Morgan Field Hockey will be a team to beat despite losing four seniors. The team has many starters returning and many underclassmen that received varsity experience that will help them next year.
