Journalism Journey

Journalism+Journey

Written by Claire Pease |

On Friday, October 27th,  Journalism students went on a field trip to Southern Connecticut State University. That Friday was ‘Journalism Day’, so to celebrate, Southern provided workshops throughout the morning. At the university, there were many different options for students to choose from.

A few weeks before the trip, Journalism and English teacher Leslie Chausse had the Journalism students choose the workshops they wanted to attend. Some workshops that were available were “The Craft Of Quoting”, “The Importance of the First Amendment”, and “Warning: May Contain Graphics Content”.

When students arrived at the campus, they enjoyed the free snacks while they waited for the first speaker to start her announcements. When it was time to start the first workshop, the Pawprint staff members, split up and found their way to the rooms of their workshops.

Many students enjoyed the workshops they attended. Junior Sydney Church went to the “So You Think You Can Edit” workshop, and she explained some tips that she learned while listening to the presenter: “Editors should read every single word because your brain can read over things and correct them,” said Sydney. Senior Emily Davis expressed her opinion on her “World Of Sports” workshop. “It was engaging in the presentation. We talked about things that we do at school too,” said Emily.

Back at Morgan, students enjoyed a pizza lunch and waited for the fun pep rally to begin.

Journalism students learned how to improve their writing and the articles that they publish.  They also got some tips on how to conduct an interview more professionally.  The event provided the opportunity to share our journalism program and to learn about the journalism programs at other schools.
