The Morgan boys baseball team started off their season April 3, 2017, at their home turf against Cromwell, winning 2-0. The boys had an undefeated season all the way up until May 3rd when they lost against Valley Regional, 10-1.
Finishing the season the baseball team still has 3 games left in the regular season before they move onto Shorelines and States where they will qualify for both. Last year they made it to the semifinals of Shorelines but lost in that round. They came very close to winning the class s title when they lost in the championship game at states. This team has high expectations for this year’s upcoming postseason. On May 9th, senior John Urban said how he would not change anything based on their record. “We are 14-1 and number 2 in the state for class s.” They continue to perform firmly at every game. “Our pitching has been very strong. We’ve been scoring a lot of runs.” The boys have been keeping up, with that being a major part of their game that can impact them the most.
Many of the players are very satisfied with how the season has been going for them. Senior Drew Walton explains how he is fulfilled on their performance this year. “I never would have guessed that we would be playing this well this year after losing a bunch of key players from last year’s team.” The seniors want to make it all worthwhile and to remember one of the best seasons they have had.
Their biggest rival is Haddam-Killingworth, and they won on April 11th against them with a close 8-7 win. They played them again on May 11th but lost 1-4.
The next game the boy’s baseball team will be playing is Monday, May 15th, away at East Lyme at 6:30. Come to a game to cheer on the team: CIAC Schedule
Congratulations to everyone on the baseball team for their success on the field.
