Movies, regardless of the genre, serve as sources of entertainment for people every day. They can be viewed through regular television, applications like Netflix and Amazon video, or even a trip to the movies theaters.
Released in 1997, Good Will Hunting is a story of a genius-level boy named Will Hunting who’s abilities are discovered by a professor at Boston’s MIT while Will is working as a janitor. Throughout the movie, Will progresses from his troubled past and develops a personal relationship with Sean Macguire, a therapist who meets with Will to discover who he truly is.
The plot develops with themes of dissatisfaction, coming of age, and the discovery of love. Many critics recommend the movie for mature teens as that is the audience who would get the most out of it. Rotten Tomatoes gives a critis consensus writing, “It follows a predictable narrative arc, but Good Will Hunting adds enough quirks to the journey — and is loaded with enough powerful performances — that it remains an entertaining, emotionally rich drama.”
Well known actors Matt Damon and Robin Williams co-star together in the movie. A very young Damon plays the character of Will Hunting and Williams acts in the movie as Sean Macguire. Sophomore Kitty Shortt gave the quote, “After seeing the movie, I would marry Matt Damon in 2 seconds.”
Good Will Hunting won the 1998 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay after its release in 1997. The film still stands to be very popular and has been critically accliamed as “thrilling story.” The film is currently available on the streaming platform Netflix.
