Last season Morgan field hockey lost 6 seniors. So, the freshmen were considered for varsity. Four freshmen came into the season in shape and ready to impress the coach.
Jillian Crowley is #44, and she loves Morgan Field Hockey. She is starting varsity as a right defender, and she rarely gets subbed out. She started playing in 6th grade. She was a forward, but she said she likes defense better. Jillian likes coach Fritze because she knows a lot of skills, and she teaches everyone new techniques. Also, she was nervous playing varsity for the first time, but she was happy especially since she wasn’t expecting it.
Delaney Mastriano is #42 and is a natural at field hockey. She loves scoring and is very aggressive on the field. She started playing in 7th grade and likes Morgan field hockey better than Eliot field hockey. Delaney likes the coach because she pushes her athletes hard and teaches new skills that she didn’t know before. She is mainly a forward or mid, but she played as a varsity back in some of the games. This is because the coach said she deserves to play, so she plays anywhere we need help. Plus she came close to scoring in the game vs Valley on Tuesday, September 13th. Delaney says that Morgan feels like a family so she wasn’t nervous playing varsity for the first time because sports are fun, and she was ‘pumped’.
Aryn McQuarrie is #2, and she’s been playing field hockey since 6th grade. She gets subbed in to be a varsity forward. She loves her position. When she’s not in varsity she is a star in JV, and she has gained new skills this year. Aryn says that Morgan field hockey is more serious than Eliot, and she has gotten more education on the sport. She was scared playing varsity for the first time and a little intimidated but she is a great runner, and she’s very determined.
Emma Farrel is #21 and she’s very good at field hockey for only starting in 8th grade. She gets subbed into some varsity games as a forward, which is a big deal for her because in middle school she mostly played JV as a defender. She likes being a forward better, and she is working on being a better and faster runner. Emma likes the Morgan coach because she said that she makes us work harder and she’s more experienced. Emma loves the team, and she likes how everyone gets along. She was scared playing varsity because she wasn’t as experienced as the other girls, but she did well and will probably have more varsity time in the future.
