It is that time of year again. After long seasons of football and basketball, the girls are getting ready for their competition season. The Morgan 2017-2018 cheerleading team coached by Guidance Counselor Joni Zduncyk and Mathematics Teacher Stephanie White had its first competition on the 3rd of February at Griswold. They took 2nd place in the all-girls varsity division. Their next competitions are on February 10th at Westbrook High School for Shorelines, February 24th at East Haven high school for NECA, and March 2nd at New Haven Floyd Little Complex for states. Last year the girls had many successes in competitions, and this year they hope to bring home many wins.
Junior Meg Falcone started Cheerleading in third grade and has done it since. She said that this year she is most excited about competing with her teammates and being able to showcase the skills that they have worked on throughout the year.
Sophomores Amber Corrigan has been on the cheerleading team since her freshman year. Amber is looking forward to winning a title above 6th place in states. Amber’s best memory on the team was “when we won first place in grand champion at CCSU with a missing flyer”. Sophomore Kylie Isleb again is looking forward to placing a high title in states. Kylie says her best memory so far is making All American this year for her second year on the team
Mrs. Zduncyk said “What I remembered the most from my experience, is not how many trophies or medals, but the connections a sense of family. I still keep in touch with most of my team and coaches to this day. When I wasn’t on a team any longer and before I started coaching I really missed that family connection and bond so when I started coaching again it was awesome to be able to form that again. The feeling of knowing that an entire team of people have your back and know you so well because you have shared laughs, tears, injuries, successes, and struggles together”
