This year Morgan welcomed Chinese Teacher Emma Liu to the staff. Ms. Liu was the last person to be hired for a teaching position at Morgan. In fact, the Chinese program was almost canceled this year due to the lack of people applying for the job. We are fortunate to have the program continue as Chinese is not offered in many schools.
Ms. Liu is from the southern part of China. She came to the U.S. when she was 20 to finish her bachelor’s degree. She then went for her masters to become a teacher. This is her first teaching job. She teaches Chinese 1, 2 and 3.
Ms. Liu believes that everyone at Morgan is very nice, and everyone has a positive attitude about the new school. She likes the idea of “x-block because students can get help from their teachers during the school day and don’t have to wait after school.”
Learning a new language is important because you never know what can happen in the future. “I did not think that I would become a teacher and teach my language to students,” said Ms. Liu, “It is a skill that people need to have.”
World Language Department Chair Laura Luther had nothing but wonderful feedback about Ms. Liu. “I love her. She is energetic and is very much interested in sharing her culture… She’s wonderful”
Junior Gabby Vigorito takes Chinese 3 and like how she sets up the class. She starts with a lesson and at the end, they all work on their unit project.
Junior Wyatt Reu also takes Chinese 3 and his favorite part of his class is, “Speaking it and making conversation with the teacher and the other people in class.” His thinks Ms. Liu is ” Very cool.” Wyatt said he like that she “uses less from the book and more based off of what we want to learn individually.”
We welcome Ms. Liu to The Morgan School.
