Edgar Rice Burroghs was an American author who is best known for his creation of the character Tarzan. His family, holding him in high regard had decided to promote his legacy. Founded in 1960, just ten years after Edgar Rice Burroughs’ death, the Burroughs Bibliophiles sponsored an annual convention known as a “Dum Dum”. This year the event will be held at Clinton Connecticut’s Andrews Memorial Town Hall, August 20-23. The Dum Dum is being organized and hosted by Peggy Adler & Harry Swaun, both of Clinton.
To promote this great convention for Morgan students, The Morgan School will be holding an essay and art contest. The Burroughs Bibliophiles publish a quarterly journal called the “Burroughs Bulletin” where the winners work will be published. The winners will also receive a small tote bag which will include: a t-shirt, Audio CD of “Tarzan” radio show, A DVD tribute to Denny Miller, “Broadway Tails” a book by Bill Berloni, a gift card, and a slew of different Dum Dum informational items.
The event will have a plethora of guest speakers and interesting events. There will be a movie marathon, Tarzan yell competition, auction of Edgar Rice Burroughs memorabilia. There will be a large number of vendors. A great concept change to this event, is to make sure that a majority of these events will be free for the public. The only fee will be to attend the banquet which will be held at the Clinton Country Club. If you are planning to attend this banquet, the money must be sent in by August 12th.
