    Spring Sport Frenzy

It’s that time of year again! Winter has been long, but spring sports finally started on Monday, March 23rd. With the golf team as back to back state champions and the softball team as shoreline champions, we hope that this year will be an even better year for the Morgan spring teams. As well as those sports, other teams are looking to have a good season as well such as the baseball team, the boys and girls lacrosse teams, the boys and girls tennis teams, and the track team.

FullSizeRenderThe golf team had a remarkable season the past two years, being shoreline and state champions in both. Most of last years participants will be returning this year, losing only one, Gabriel Vanness. There are three seniors this year and the captains are Maxx and Kevin Daley.

The softball team overall went 18-4 last season, being the shoreline champions and trailing by one in the state quarterfinals against St. Bernards. The girls lost three former seniors, Lily Dawson, Jaime Fitzgerald, and Sarah Dahlburg and will have seven seniors this year. Captains are Jen Dawson, Kelsey Donaldson, Tori Hopkins, and Ashlyn Chidsey.

The track team has many returning players and many incoming freshmen, a total number of players that always seems to remain high. After losing fifteen seniors last year, this year there are ten seniors with three captains, Kelly Thompson, Erin Barnett, and Brian Gendron. Erin says, “There is a lot of strong returning runners this year with a lot of new incomers. The Junior class is a strong running class and the freshmen and sophomores have a lot of potential.”

The boys lacrosse team had a winning record last year of 10-7. The boys have nine seniors this year and captains are Chris Waterbury, Nathaniel Blanusa, and Joe Lee. They’re excited to see what this year brings them.  IMG_0395

The girls lacrosse team also had a winning record of 7-6-1 last year. They lost seven former seniors but are hoping for another good season with the returning seven current seniors. Captains this year are Riley Musial and Kaitlyn Lucas. Senior, Charlotte Limosani says, “We have a lot of potential this year because we have strong returning players. There is a lot of incoming freshmen that will build to the team and they all seem to have a positive energy; we’re hoping to keep progressing from our season last year.”

The boys tennis team are looking forward for a good season this year with five seniors and Senior captain, Alan Esposito. Freshman Patrick Markovics says,  “I’m excited to play tennis this year because this is my first time. I’m looking forward to trying to make states.”

The girls tennis team wished to have a better season last year but are hoping that this years team will improve. There will be three seniors this year and four captains, Seniors Megan McAllister and Jessica Garbinski, and Juniors Riley Smith and Darcy LaFrance.
