On Friday May 11th, Morgan attended the Old Saybrook Running Rams Invitational. This year the meet was relocated to Valley Regional and held under the lights.  The boys’ team placed 7th place and the girls placed 5th out of 16 teams.

The boys had a strong showing in the short distance races and hurdles. The first relay of the evening was the 4×100 meter relay; Cody Kuczenski, Riley Cochrane, Casey Sullivan and Chase Lemay, placed 6th.  While in the last event of the evening, the 4×400 meter relay, Evan Doolittle, Casey Sullivan, Nick Tuccitto and Brian Gendron placed 3rd.  Will Teas represented the team well in hurdles, placing first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.74 and first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.36. Doolittle followed with a respectable 3rd in the 300 hurdles. By the end of the evening, Morgan had solidified its 5th place standing with Kuczenski achieving a close 3rd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.15; Gendron placing 6th in the 400 meter dash;  Justin Hauser placing 4th in the shot put with a measure of 39 feet, 1 inch and Cameron Williams placing 3rd in the javelin throw with 134 feet, 10 inches.

The girls had an amazing night under the lights, placing well in all areas. In the 200 meter dash Steph Carroll placed 6th with a time of 28.44 while Jess Choronzy followed close behind, placing 7th with a time of 28.69. Elena Schroeder had a large lead in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.50, Taylor Donaldson placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.72, and Emily Perzanoski placed 3rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.47. The girls’ long jumper, Alyssa Mancini, also did well, placing 2nd with a distance of 14 feet, 8 inches. Perhaps the pinnacle moment of the evening was the girls’ 4×400 meter relay. Christy Coyne, Donaldson, Perzanoski and Schroeder placed first and broke the meet record with their time of 4:12.73

The Morgan track team will no doubt continue to impress at their next night meet on Tuesday, May 15th and will have a larger than average showing at the state championship at the end of the month.
