The Morgan School is fortunate to have a school Amnesty International group. Amnesty International is a nonprofit organization whose main goal is to fight and protect human rights. The group started five years ago when a student asked Mrs. Chausse to advise the group. The small but determined club held pizza sales to help children with HIV in Africa; made dolls to support Aung San Suu Kyi, a woman imprisoned for fighting for human rights. Currently, Aung San Suu Kyi is out of prison, thanks to the help of Amnesty, and she was recently sworn in as a member of parliament in Burma. Recently, five Amnesty students from Morgan went to a press conference at the state capital. Relatives of victims of violent crimes spoke against the death penalty. On Thursday April 25, 2012, the death penalty was repealed in the great state of Connecticut. Even though Amnesty is a strong group, they would still love to have more students join them to help protect human rights. They accept anyone from all ages and grades. So if you are interested in protecting and fighting for human rights, I suggest that you consider joining Amnesty International at Morgan; I guarantee you won’t regret it.
