The guidance office is welcoming a new counselor. Mrs. Williams-Kahn is the newest member of the Morgan faculty. Growing up in Port Jefferson, Long Island, she attended Comsewogue High School. After high school in New York, she received her bachelor’s degree at Quinnipiac University and her Master’s Degree at The University of Hartford, where she enjoyed her college experience.
This year, Mrs. Williams-Kahn will be counseling the sophomores and juniors. Next year because The Morgan School will be changing to an academy style, she will cover the juniors and seniors with Mrs. Rodowicz. They will focus on the “transitioning out” process while Mrs. O’Brien and Mrs. Capobianco will focus on “transitioning into high school” as they will cover the incoming freshman and sophomores. Having another guidance counselor will support the academy style. “It’s more specialized,” she says.
After she finished her undergrad, Williams-Kahn decided she wanted to become a guidance counselor. “I loved the counseling aspect,” she said referring to her previous job. She originally thought she wanted to be an elementary school teacher until working in a mental health setting, at Gilead in Middletown, CT. Gilead provides housing, support services and clinical treatment to individuals with mental illness. After working here, she knew she wanted to be a guidance counselor in a school setting.
Before coming to Morgan, Williams-Kahn worked at Bacon Academy for five years. Her duties here at Morgan are not that different from those at Bacon, other than working with upperclassmen rather than underclassmen. So far, Williams-Kahn is enjoying her time at Morgan. “The students and staff are all nice.”
