With the end of the year quickly approaching, the Senior class must finalize its end of the year trips and events. The first trip on the agenda for the class is the senior picnic. The trip is planned for June 6th, 2014, and will be held at Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park between 9 A.M. in the morning until 2 P.M. in the afternoon. The park, that once served as an old granite quarry, is located in Portland, CT and has many different activities to offer. The quarry has been transformed into a water park of sorts, offering many activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, cliff jumping, wakeboarding, hiking, biking, and zip lines. Brownstone has been a popular location for the senior picnic, and from what I have heard from other students, it is a great place to be on a hot day as you can relax and cool off.
Heading the trip will be Mrs. Whittel, our class advisor, who has made a lot of the trips for end of the year possible. She is very excited about the trip and had much to say about Brownstone. The trip this year has been fully financed by the school, in place of our field trip that we earned during our freshman year as part of the community service challenge. The only items we will have to pay for are food and certain activities such as scuba diving and wakeboarding. However, everything else has been paid for by the school, which leaves more money for our class to use for events such as the upcoming senior prom.
Mrs. Whittel is looking forward to the activities at Brownstone. She said, “I really want to jump off the cliff.” I also asked her what teachers would be attending the trip as chaperones. She said, “As of now, the teachers that will be attending are Mr. Baier, Mrs. Kaestle, Mr. Webb, Mrs.Fasulo, Mr. Richitelli, Mrs. Rodowicz, Mrs. Cozzolino, Ms. White, and Mrs. Robinson.” Mrs. Whittel also added that there are some things that the seniors need to do in preparation for the trip. She said, “make sure you guys have your permission forms filled out. Also, have your waiver signed so you can participate in the activities at Brownstone. It is best if you bring flip-flops or sandals, and sunscreen is something that I would recommend. It is going to be a lot of fun this year, and I can’t wait!” With the date edging closer and the weather becoming nicer, Brownstone is beginning to sound like a day to remember for the Senior class.
