On Thursday, February 13th, The Morgan Fencing Team fenced against Daniel Hand High School for their senior night. Seniors Kaitlyn Tunney, Ethan Tessman, Andrew Daly, Lucas Morello, Isabella Recine, and the two captains Thomas Baker and Lily Kozak all attended. Unfortunately, senior Mathew Albert was not able to attend.

Before the night began the underclassmen decorated the gym with streamers and posters along the doors and walls. Each senior got their own poster, and their name was displayed on a banner.

At the beginning of the match, each senior was called into the gym with their families to receive a flower and to shake hands with their coaches. Head coach Jim Barnett called out each senior, giving information about the number of years they have been fencing, the college they plan to attend and what major they are studying. At the center of the gym, each family was given the opportunity to take photos with the coaches, along with one big group photo with the whole team.

Shortly afterward, fencing began, and the Morgan team gave them everything they had. In order to win the match, each team, men and women, must win a total of at least 14 matches each. Sadly the men’s team lost 5 to 22. Women came very close, only losing 11 to 16.

After the match was over, Morgan invited the Hand team to come and join in on a fun party full of pizza and cookies. There was dancing, and the party went for about an hour after the match was completed.

The Pawprint wants to wish the fencing team good luck at states February 29 and March 1 and hopefully, all teams will qualify for team states this year.
