Join Clinton Educators for A Good Cause

    Written by Jose Vincent |

Do you want to get fit, enjoy the fresh air, and raise money for a good cause?      Consider joining Ms. DelGrego and Mrs. Robinson on either Tour de Cure or Closer to Free cycling events.

The Tour de Cure will benefit diabetes research, education, and advocacy.  This cycling event  will be on June 9th at 7:00 a.m.at the Durham Fairgrounds.  The registration fee is $25, and the fundraising minimum is $2oo. Ms. DelGrego and Mrs. Robinson are both riding the 50K  (31 miles), but the more ambitious riders can join Mr. Cross on the 100 mile ride. For more information and details on the different route distances, visit the Tour de Cure-site. Ms. Robinson said ” We were approached by superintendent, Mr. Cross, and he shared that he had a bike ride in June for Diabetes and asked if we were interested in joining his team”. Kids and adults are dealing with diabetes in their day to day life so it’s a good thing for them to see that they have support and people willing to help them.

The Closer to Free will raise money to help doctors research cancer and help make those who have cancer get better. Closer to Free Smilow Cancer Hosptial ride will take place on September 7th at 7:00 A.M. at the Yale Bowl, New Haven. The registration fee is $100 and the fundraising minimum is $400. This benefits the Smillow Cancer Center. Ms. DelGrego will be riding the 62.5 mile ride but if you feel like you want more of a challenge then you can do the 100mile ride, or if you just want to enjoy a little ride then you can do the 25 mile ride. For more information and different route distances visit the Closer to Free website. Ms. DelGregrego said “when I was in a bike shop and started getting into cycling, I saw this ride for the Smilow Cancer Hosptial in New Haven.  I thought it would be a great event to be a part of. I did my first ride in September, and then I wanted to do another ride.”  When asked how her experience was riding in September Ms. DelGrego said ” It was rewarding.”

Ms. DelGrego, Mrs. Robinson and Superintendent Cross will be doing these rides and are hoping students will join them and keep this tradition going.

It is great that teachers in our school are getting involved for such a good cause! Hopefully many people will get involved in the other upcoming race in September.
